“I chose Fielding for my doctorate because I admired the quality of the professors and because I thrive in a self-paced learning environment. Plus, the model enriches the educational experience – there were some brilliant individuals in our learning group…Now I’m Dean of the School of Leadership and Professional Development at Mountain State University in West Virginia…” -William White, EdD
Faculty members are recognized experts
in their fields and are attuned to student’s needs and their approach to learning. They recognize and honor individual learning styles and encourage students to customize the curriculum
to fit their own professional goals and educational needs.
At Fielding, students choose
from a variety of learning and communication methods: Internet seminars, teleconferences, electronic forums, and face-to-face meetings at local, regional and national interactive sessions. They also have regular private one-to-one discussions with their faculty mentor. We provide formal and informal opportunities to engage in collaborative learning as well as independent, self-directed learning. Fielding students are encouraged
to explore educational topics that excite their passion.
“While serving in the Peace Corps in Turkey, I was hired sight unseen by an inner city
high school in Camden, New Jersey. I loved the job so much I continued teaching in the NYC metro area for 16 years…As an independent learner, Fielding was a perfect fit. It allowed me to design my own course of study and to pursue areas of inquiry that other institutions might find too edgy. There’s really nothing else like Fielding”. -Sarah MacDougall, EdD

“I always liked learning, but I never liked school until Fielding, where I found both academic excellence and social consciousness. I wanted to be around people who didn’t just talk liberal, but who were committed to making real, progressive change in the world. I was also attracted by Fielding’s sense of community”. -Diana Waters, EdD
