Spring Jazz Session 2008

Student – MA Organizational Management and Development

my experience

I had no idea what to expect from a seminar that’s referred to as a “Jazz Session” so I went with an open mind. The session is actually a two-day event where we begin the development phase for our master’s projects. It’s a requirement of the Organization Management and Development (OMD) program and I was very excited to attend.

We discussed our project ideas in small groups that included both students and faculty. The environment was supportive, friendly and very collaborative.

I got great feedback on my project ideas and learned about the work my fellow students are doing in life and in the program. The faculty added so much to the process - and in such a casual way. Any anxiety I felt at the beginning of the event was gone by the middle of the first day!

event highlights

Meeting some of the people I’ve been communicating with online. It’s always great to put a real face to the name. A headshot is one thing but it can’t take the place of the actual person.

why was i there

Because I’m the Vice President, Corporate Strategy & Innovations for Workforce Solutions, I work as a change agent. I lead organizational growth, continuous improvement, strategic planning, and business systems innovation. This event is mandatory however; I was there and excited because I knew I’d learn something I could take back to my “real life” and apply – because that’s what Fielding is all about for me.

About This Event

In the OMD program, the “Jazz Session” (OMD 611) is mandatory and offered every term.

Fielding offers various types of sessions where students and faculty meet, collaborate, and extend their studies.
