Joy Don Baker, Ph.D., RN-BC, named a Fellow of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN).

Joy Don Baker, Ph.D., RN-BC, CNOR, CNE, NEA-BC, FAORN, FAAN, was named a Fellow of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN). A Fellow of AORN is recognized as a perioperative nurse leader who has made significant contributions to the perioperative profession.

Joy Don Baker, PhD, RN-BC, CNOR, CNE, NEA-BC, FAORN, FAAN has been a practicing perioperative nurse for over 40 years serving in roles from staff nurse to administrative levels in hospitals across the US. She currently teaches Evidence-Based Practice in the graduate nursing program of the College of Nursing and Health Innovation (CONHI) at The University of Texas at Arlington.

Dr. Baker also operates her own consulting service, providing administrative, assessment, planning, and research consulting. Dr. Baker has served national AORN as a board member and vice president. She served as the AORN Journal Editor-in-Chief from 2012-2017. She has served as the AORN State Coordinator for Texas and Region V AORN Nursing Legislative Committee Coordinator. She served on the North Texas Regional Team: “advancing health through nursing” as a nurse educator representative for the BSN or Higher Degree.

Dr. Baker is an accomplished author and presenter. In 2013, she was a speaker at the VPNG Conference in Melbourne, Australia and in 2002, she was the keynote speaker for the Japanese Operating Nursing Academy Annual Congress in Chiba, Japan. She has continued to be a speaker at the annual AORN International Expo and Surgical Conference on writing for publication. Dr. Baker holds certifications in Informatics, Executive Nursing Administration, Education, and Perioperative Nursing. Currently, she is serving as the chair of the Clinical Track Committee for the CONHI.

Dr. Baker earned her Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate University. She also holds a master’s in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding, an MBA from the University School of NSU, an MS in Nursing from Oklahoma State University Health Sciences, and a BS in Nursing from Oklahoma Baptist University.
