As we approach a contested Presidential election, many of us are grappling with the strain of polarized political discourse. Questions arise about the authenticity of democracy — whether its promise is real or merely an illusion. In these unprecedented times, we face multiple threats and challenges that can feel overwhelming.

This presentation offers a vital opportunity for the Fielding community to come together, explore our contentious political landscape, and identify actionable ways to engage in the democratic process. Let’s discuss how we can bridge divides and foster resilience in our society.

Our invited panelists represent a variety of institutions focused on the intersection of democracy, political engagement, and human rights. Our discussion will engage the following subject areas:

  • Overview of threats and challenges to democracy
  • Current landscape of democracy in the United States
  • Current landscape of democracy internationally
  • The role of technology, media, and AI in democracy
  • The role of higher education and democracy

Join us in this critical conversation as we seek to empower ourselves and our community to make a meaningful difference.

Invited panelists include the following:

  • Dr. John Dedrick, Kettering Foundation
  • Dr. Laurence Habib, Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway
  • Dr. Philipp Kneis, Oregon State University
  • Dr. Keith Melville, Fielding Graduate University
  • Dr. Katrina Rogers, Fielding Graduate University President
