Dr. Lee Mahon

It is with a heavy heart that Fielding reports the news that former faculty member Lee Mahon, EdD, passed away on June 15.

Dr. Mahon was a longtime faculty member in the Educational Leadership for Change program in the School of Leadership Studies. She was a dedicated mentor to her students, passionate about Fielding, and a wonderful friend to her colleagues, who will miss her.

Faculty member Lenneal Henderson, PhD, had this to say:

Lee is a mighty soul and mind who was so devoted to us, to her scholars, to Fielding. She is a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Godmother. She was an Associate Superintendent of Public Schools in San Francisco, Principal of my high school, Lowell High School of San Francisco and an award winning professor at the University of Santa Clara.

Her devotion to social justice, to quality scholarship, to the affirmation and appreciation of people and her great laugh are just a few of the amazing qualities that we will always cherish. Even now, we can see her standing in front of her Lexus SUV in Tucson which she drove from her home in Millbrae, California.

The ELC faculty had just voted to recommend her for Faculty Emerita.

I recommend in her honor not morbid sadness but robust celebration and an even greater embrace of all that good in life.

Her memorial service will take place at 10 am on June 25 at Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 @ Skyline blvd, San Mateo, California, with a reception afterwards at a family home in Menlo Park.

Dr. Mahon’s niece, Jeni, is accepting written notes to be read at the service. Please send them to her directly at heyjeni@sbcglobal.net

The family has asked that if anyone wishes to make a donation in Dr. Mahon’s name, please send it to Fielding Graduate University, c/o Elena Nicklasson. 2020 De La Vina St., Santa Barbara, CA  93105. In the check memo, write “In honor of Lee Mahon for the Lee Mahon and Carrie Won Scholarship Fund.”

Gifts by credit card can be made here. Select Carrie B. Won Scholarship Fund. Write “In honor of Lee Mahon” in the comments.
