Jeffrey Neuschatz, Ph.D.
Biography
Jeffrey S. Neuschatz, Ph.D., received his Bachelor’s degree from Roger Williams University, his Master’s degree from Cortland College in General Experimental Psychology, and his Doctorate in Cognitive Psychology from the State University of New York-Binghamton.
His primary research interests include eyewitness memory, line-up identification, secondary confessions, and jury decision making. In terms of eyewitness identification, Dr. Neuschatz has been concerned with two primary areas: show-up identification and post-identification feedback. His work on show-up identifications has focused on factors that influence its reliability. Dr. Neuschatz has pioneered research on jailhouse informant testimony. Specifically, his research is concerned with how jurors perceive informant testimony and evaluate our current safeguards against unreliable testimony. He has published over 50 articles and chapters. In addition, he has co-authored a book, The Psychology of Eyewitness Identification (2012).
Throughout his career, Dr. Neuschatz has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate level classes. These classes include cognition, learning, psychology and law, and statistics. He received the Outstanding Creative Activity Mentoring Award for the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2015. In addition, he has won the Most Outstanding Researcher award from the university on two occasions.
