Biography

Katrina Landa was born and raised in Miami, Florida. The daughter of Cuban immigrants, she grew up speaking English and Spanish and was intrigued by the similarities and differences between the two languages. After high school, she attended Miami-Dade Community College- where she attended a study abroad program in Florence, Italy and first begin working in a classroom for students with special needs. She received a Bachelor's of Science in Special Education and Psychology and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages, both from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.

She has worked as an early childhood special education teacher, a geography teacher at a school for students with varying exceptionalities, an adult basic education instructor, and a high school dual enrollment program coordinator. She earned her Doctorate in Special Education from Florida International University in 2009 and began teaching in Higher Education in 2011. In her spare time, Katrina enjoys hiking, cooking, and spending time with her husband, her three daughters, and her pets: a growing school of guppies and a very big gentle dog.
