Provost and Senior Vice President Wendi Williams, Ph.D., recently received one of the most distinguished honors from the American Psychological Association (APA).
Provost Williams was awarded an APA Presidential Citation from APA President Thema S. Bryant, Ph.D., for “her outstanding efforts in applying her work as a psychologist, advocate, and educator at the intersection of education and psychology to her scholarship and leadership during the past two decades.”
“My first meeting with Dr. Thema Bryant occurred when I joined the Society for the Psychology of Women, Division 35 of the American Psychological Association (APA),” said Provost Williams. “She was president of the division, and I was an early career psychologist looking for professional connection. Being recognized by her for my work on advancing the leadership and voices of diverse women and girls, and particularly Black women/girls, is an especially meaningful full-circle moment for me.”
Provost Williams is a member of the APA’s Council of Representatives (term: 2023-2025) and continues to be an active member of Division 35. She has served in many roles within the division throughout the years, including as its president. In February, she attended the APA’s Council of Representatives meeting with current Clinical Psychology Ph.D. student Tiffany Parisi, who is immediate past student chair of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS).
