Dear Fielding Community,

Within the span of a few days, we have experienced two more tragic mass shootings: one during the Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park, California, on Saturday, Jan. 21, and another separate shooting at two farms on Monday, Jan. 23 in Half Moon Bay, California. These horrific and senseless acts are heartbreaking. We recognize how these tragedies impact the Asian community around our country. We are so saddened that such a joyous celebration of culture and tradition and others going about their daily lives were overshadowed by grief, loss of innocent lives, and fear for one’s safety and well-being.

The Fielding community is standing in support of our Asian/Pacific Islander (API) community and condemns this kind of violence. For those of you who have experienced loss and/or emotional distress, let us remind you that we have services through SOAR to assist in times of need. In addition, we will be holding space for individuals who feel the need to come together in community. Please join us on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. PST | 6 p.m. EST. The Zoom link will be emailed to the Fielding community, or you may email media@fielding.edu to request the Zoom link.

In Spirit,

Allison Davis-White Eyes, Ph.D.
